The Online John Muir Award programme was initiated as a response to the Covid 19 restrictions during summer 2020. The aims of the project were to actively engage with the public during Covid 19 restrictions, and provide an alternative to facilitated outdoor projects that could not be undertaken; and encourage and support people, especially families, to engage meaningfully and actively with their local environment during Covid 19 restrictions and beyond.
In 2021, the ‘Can You Dig It’ project commissioned Mae Diansangu to write a poem inspired by the ‘Can You Dig It’ investigation of a deserted farmstead called Upper Gairloch on the Raiders Road. Wanting to showcase a fresh perspective on Scotland's past during the pandemic, the poem was released to coincide with StAnza, Scotland's International Poetry Festival.
