HE. first appearance of the Gordons in Galloway was in&#13;
Robert Il. granted them the New Forest of Glenken. In 1403. Alexander&#13;
da of Kenmure. and in 1439, the family&#13;
&#13;
Gordon was infeft ia the Inn&#13;
shire, and Lochinvar in Galloway&#13;
&#13;
were in possession of Stitchell in Roxburg!&#13;
&#13;
ave been built by the Baliols, and&#13;
&#13;
The Castle of Kenmure is reputed to by&#13;
1 birth-place&#13;

been stated that Kenmure was the&#13;

was one of their seats. It h&#13;
of John Baliol.&#13;

Kenmure Castle hos had many vicissitudes ‘Aher the Battle of Lang: ide it&#13;

fo awa davetion’ to Queen” Mery (1568). Again, in 1650,&#13;
&#13;
taken by Cromwell's troops and “in pant” destroyed and dismantled.&#13;

In 1662, the then Lord Kenmure was ordered by the Government: * void&#13;
ere put in, In 1716,&#13;
&#13;
the house,” and a arrison of Government troops&#13;
‘William, sisth Viscount Kenmure, was beheaded on Tower Hill for his part&#13;
in the rebellion in 1715, and the title and estates were forfeited to the Crown.&#13;
&#13;
The Castle was again used as a garrison, and sullered severely.&#13;

the Queen with wearing apparel—‘dee hebite et wn damoisenn” (a hood). It&#13;

and if, as one authority states, alte came {rom Sanquhnr down to the west&#13;
